BBQ Sauce

36 oz ketchup

64 oz white vinegar

1/4 cup salt

1/8 cup black pepper

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon red pepper flakes

Using a large stock pot, combine all ingredients and  bring to a  boil.  Simmer for one hour.


This recipe is very forgiving.  You may reduce the salt content, if needed.  For those who prefer a milder sauce, reduce the amount of pepper.  If you like a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar.

The key to making this a great sauce is to simmer for at least one hour.  

This sauce keeps well in quart jars and may be refrigerated when made ahead of time.
