New South Green Beans

In my neck of the woods, we like cooked green beans.  Yes, I said cooked!  We like them cooked so much they start falling apart!  These will taste like your granny made them!


I know some folks like them crispy and that is great in stir-fry, but I love southern style green beans that are cooked until they are nice and tender.  This green bean recipe is the easiest ever for making good 'ole southern style green beans.  It uses canned green beans right from the grocery store.  You can use frozen green beans as well, but the cooking time is a bit longer and you will need to add more water.

This calls for chicken bouillon, but not just ANY bouillon will do for this recipe.  In order to get the bouillon flavor throughout this dish, it is best not to use the tiny bouillon cubes that are hard as a rock!

Do yourself a huge favor and get yourself some Knorr Chicken Flavor Bouillon CUBES.  These things are awesome and they are softer in texture so they break apart very easily.  These come 8 cubes to a box and they are very inexpensive.  The easiest place to find them is on the Hispanic food aisle in the grocery store.  They cost about one dollar per box at Food Lion.  


4 regular size cans green beans, drained

1 and 1/2 Knorr chicken bouillon cubes

1 tsp pepper

1 and 1/2 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil

1 tsp sugar


After draining the green beans, place them inside a large pot.  Pour water over them until they are almost covered.

Add bouillon, oil, pepper and sugar.

Bring to a boil.  Turn heat down to medium.

Continue boiling until the water is almost gone from the pot.

(You will start to hear them crackle a bit when the water is almost gone.)

Remove from heat and serve.
